Galvanized Steel Vinyl Coated Wire Rope, 3/64" Cable Diameter, 50' Length, 270 lbs Breaking Strength, 1/16" Coated Outside Diameter, Green Feature

  • Corrosion Resistant
Galvanized steel is widely used in applications where rust resistance is needed, and can be identified by the crystallization patterning on the surface often called a "spangle".The process of hot-dip galvanizing results in a metallurgical bond between zinc and steel with a series of distinct iron-zinc alloys. The resulting coated steel can be used in much the same way as uncoated. Galvanized steel can be welded; however, one must exercise caution around the resulting zinc fumes. Galvanized steel is suitable for high-temperature applications of up to 392 Degree F 200 Degree C. Use at temperatures above this level will result in peeling of the zinc at the intermetallic layer. Wire rope consists of several strands laid or 'twisted' together like a helix. Each strand is likewise made of metal wires laid together like a helix. Initially wrought iron wires were used, but today steel is the main material used for wire ropes. Multiple wire strands, cables and wire ropes are actually machines. Each component wire and strand physically adjusts to contribute to the cable or wire ropes load bearing capacity. Generally the more wires in a strand, cable or wire rope the more flexible it behaves. A typical Loos and Co. product is 7x 7 cable. In this cable there are seven strands of seven wires each, (7x 7=49). There are 49 wires working together as a machine in this particular construction. Each application has a construction best suited for it. Wire rope is often sold with vinyl and nylon coatings. This increases weather resistance and overall durability.

  • Corrosion Resistant
Stainless Steel is a large and widely used family of Iron-Chromium Alloys. Stainless Steels are alloys of iron and carbon that contain between 12 and 30 percent Chromium, plus other alloying elements. The chromium, which helps develop a passive surface oxide film, provides corrosion resistance in stainless steels. Stainless Steels are wrought or cast and consist of several families that are named for their metallurgical structure. Stainless Steels are fabricated and welded by all common processes and are used for their corrosion resistance, high-temperature strength, scaling resistance, and low-temperature toughness. These properties account for their extremely wide use in practically every industry. Density is .29 lbs./in3 for 300 series. Most stainless steel products in this catalog are of type 300 series. Formability is unusually good, and cold working results in increased strength. These alloys are non-magnetic in the annealed condition, although some may become slightly magnetic after cold working. They can be hardened only by cold working, and not by heat treatment. Stainless Steel 18-8 denotes 18 percent chromium and 8 percent nickel. Welding characteristics are very good. Widely used in marine environments and in applications which require exposure to acetic acid compounds, and other chemical corrosives. Multiple wire strands, cables and wire ropes are actually machines. Each component wire and strand physically adjusts to contribute to the cable or wire ropes load bearing capacity. Generally the more wires in a strand, cable or wire rope the more flexible it behaves. A typical Loos and Co. product is 7x19 cable. In this cable there are seven strands of nineteen wires each, (7x19=133). There are 133 wires working together as a machine in this particular construction. Each application has a construction best suited for it.

  • Phosphorous bronze
C544 Phosphor Bronze is a Copper alloy with tin as the principal alloying material rather than zinc. When polished, bronze develops a beautiful golden finish. A typical 80-20 bronze would have an approximate density of 0.315 lb/in3 and have a melting point of approx. 1868F (1020C). Ductility decreases rapidly with the increase of tin in the alloy mix. Phosphor bronze has a tin content of 1.25 to 10 percent, and possesses excellent cold-working and mechanical properties. Each application has a construction best suited for it. Small Parts stocks wire-rope in the following construction types: 1x7, 1x19, 3x7, 7x7, 7x19, 6x42, 19x7, 6x19.

Wrought iron is commercially pure iron, having a very small carbon content (not more than 0.15 percent), but usually containing some slag. It is a fibrous material due to the slag inclusions. This is also what gives it a "grain" resembling wood, which is visible when it is etched or bent to the point of failure. Wrought iron is tough, malleable, ductile and easily welded. Wire rope consists of several strands laid or 'twisted' together like a helix. Each strand is likewise made of metal wires laid together like a helix. Initially wrought iron wires were used, but today steel is the main material used for wire ropes.
